Mathematics Department of M.G.M. College is functioning since 1949. It has two permanent faculty members and five management appointed faculty members. Three faculty members are post graduates with M .Phil degree and one with B. Ed. Normally, the intake of students with mathematics as one of the major subject is more than 90.

Department Objectives	Focus on current trends in Research field: We will guide the students to take-up different research projects in fields like number theory, graph theory, lattice theory etc. Personality Development of Students: Efforts will be made to develop the mental ability, self confidence and optimistic nature of students. Faculty Development: Faculty members will be encouraged to organize seminars workshops etc and to engage in research work, small projects etc.
Academic Action Plan	The following action plan is designed to achieve the above objectives Conducting training programs to develop students aptitudes, mental abilities. Arranging Leadership training programs and organizing value education classes. Encouraging faculty members to attend refresher courses.
Learning Resources of Department	The Department Library Books are issued to interested students free of charge.
The Co-curricular Activities	The Departments has started an in - house bulletin �Infinity�. Hence supporting the students to write articles related to the subject. Encouraging the students to participate in the various competitions conducted by colleges of Mangalore University. Every Year the Department organizes a five day training program to the participants of Karnataka Regional Mathematics Olympiad. In the year 2008-09, five students, one from III B.Sc and four from II B.Sc completed small projects in subjects like number theory, graph theory.
